SUCCESSFUL START-UP OF SAFETY EQUIPMENT IN CMC ALABAMA (USA)
In February 2009, CMC ALABAMA (Birmingham, USA) successfully commissioned the MOTANK remote controlled ram for slag door cleaning in their 80 ton EAF supplied by MORE srl (Gemona del Friuli, Italy). With steel makers committed to reducing the risk of injuries of their workers to zero, MORE is working in partnership with them to meet their safety goals.
CMC Steel Alabama produces a wide range of standard and high-strength grade steels. Their strong commitment to safety has enabled CMC Steel Alabama to be recognized twice by the Steel Manufacturers Association as the safest steel mini mill in North America.
The MOTANK machine consists of a remote controlled truck equipped with a horizontal arm which eliminates the need for a man driven forklift. It removes scrap deposited in the slag door tunnel during bucket charging and pushes the scrap into the furnace, away from the slag door thus preventing scrap from dropping into the slag pit. The machine also restores the furnace breast after tapping and regenerates its working level by removing excess slag deposits.
MORE has a scorecard of 16 MOTANK systems supplied or under manufacturing worldwide, thus reconfirming our undisputed leadership in the supply of safety equipment to serve the steelmaking industry
