Lindarc Real-time laser based Electric Arc Furnace off-gas analysis system
The modern electric arc furnace operation calls for top performances, optimized use of chemical energy, improved safety, reduction in conversion costs and lower emission levels.
To achieve and improve these requirements, a highly accurate and reliable off-gas monitoring system has been developed in collaboration with LINDE AG.
The innovative in-situ laser system allows for real-time off-gas emissions measurements enabling a closed-loop operation with dynamic control of the chemical energy practice during the EAF cycle.
LINDARC™ off-gas analysis system uses the technique of “Tunable Diode Laser Absorption Spectroscopy” (TDLAS). This single-line absorption spectroscopy measuring technique is based on the selection of one single absorption line nearby the infrared spectral range for the specific gas. The concentration of the selected element is determined by the quantity of light absorbed at its specific spectral range. This measurement technique guarantees precise results even with very high dust contents.

The water-cooled housings are inserted into the off-gas duct just after the secondary air gap to protect the laser beams between transmitter and receiver units through a precise and pre-determined path length.
To ensure a correct reading of gas concentration in the off-gas stream core avoiding the undesirable effect of the false air entering from the gap, fingers positioning is driven by a CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analysis.
